Hahvahd...

There was lots happening this weekend...

Friday a few students who weren't interning that day and/or got off from work early since it was Friday headed to Harvard Square with me...or better know in this area as "Hahvahd". We checked out the area and shops there for a couple of hours and just milled around. One of the students and I ventured through a few downtown streets back in Boston for a bit before heading back to the house. I only thought I was going to get a brief nap in before going out again, but I was wrong. Minutes after crashing on Before I knew it we were out and about again...this time headed to Chinatown for dinner. We ended up having Vietnamese for dinner....yes, in Chinatown. Dinner was better than I expected because when I've had Vietnamese food in D.C. in the past, it was terribly spicy. I had a great vermicelli chicken dish with veggies. I wouldn't however recommend taking a large bite of pickled carrot shreddings....they were rather disgusting! The first photo is my dish....then one of the pile of sprouts and stalks of mint leaves that are served with the bowls of soup. Finally, Ashley and I enjoying an "after dinner mint stalk" and a few other fun pictures of dinner.

After dinner we had some fun in Chinatown with the lions and then ventured around for a bit, eventually ending up in Little Italy at the Injectable Ice Cream Pastry Shop. I'll explain that one more another day with some pictures because I didn't take any, but I'm SURE we'll be back there!

Saturday afternoon a few of us went to a free sailing event on the Charles River. It wasn't the nicest day but it was still fun to say we went.

Following sailing we ventured crosstown to the huge farmer's market. We bought grapes and strawberries for a buck a bag/container, amongst other fruits and veggies. In other words, a dollar a pound....soooo much cheaper than the grocery store and I'm sure they were much better! A group of students also spent much of the day at the Museum of Fine Arts, but I haven't heard any stories from them yet!

The rest of Saturday was a pretty lazy day for the majority of us as we lounged in the tv room and caught a nice afternoon nap or two. :D We ended the night with many of us playing spoons and other assorted card games and eating pizza and ice cream. It was a sad night when my entire 1/2 gallon of ice cream was eaten straight from the carton by only 4 of us. During a game of cards with the object to get RID of your cards, Katherine found herself holding almost an entire deck of the two decks we were playing with!

Sunday afternoon the majority of us headed to Hahvahd. We went on a tour of the University given by some really enthusiastic students. They told us a lot of less-know and secret facts of the University and how some of the buildings got their names, etc. It was very interesting! Then some of us grabbed lunch at a pub that was recommended by our tour guide. It was there I saw one of the funniest pictures yet..."Congrats Grads...We'll miss your livers!" Wow, this was priceless, and I couldn't help but take a photo of it.

Here are some other photos of the Hahvahd area:

The famous toe to rub for luck

And this is THE very stage/stairs that Bill Gates and Bill Clinton stood on only 1 and 2 days earlier for Harvard Commencement Ceremonies.

Beth, Sam & Megan bought some cool Adidas together then Sunday Sam and Megan were twins (note the same shoes, shirt, jeans, curly hair and all!)

Beth stylin' in the Curious George Store...and Chas enjoying his heap of fajitas (and YES, he ate them ALL!)...then Chas post-fajitas :)

This is a view I caught from inside the Subway while crossing the bridge on the way back from Hahvahd Sunday afternoon. The sailboats make it even more beautiful!

And that brings me to Sunday night...another lull of a night but a beautiful one indeed. Last week I spent some time down by the river, just a short 3 or 4 minute walk from the house. This is where many people from our group have discovered as a great place for a jog or even just after dinner stroll so I thought I'd include some photo...

See the skyline....................lots of ducks!
the footbridge to walk over from the house and then the view

Oh, and for those wondering, unfortunately our walking tour with the Professor of the interns' class was canceled due to the weather. They are going on a short tour this Thursday during class though! Also this weekend many of us will be exploring the Freedom Trail throughout the city and it sounds like others have some big plans as well. Photos and stories to come soon!

Until next time...

Stephanie

Love all the photos and look forward to the next blog entry. It's great to see the Boston scenery and what the group is doing! I showed it to the grandmother of one of the girls and she can't wait for the next update
