Internships, Italy, Ice Cream, and more! (In other words I couldn't think of any other "I" words!)

Well here it is not even the end of week 1 but I have so many pictures that I thought I better post an update for everyone! Again, remember you can click on the photos to view them larger.

I think I last left off on Saturday. Well, the rest of our group arrived on Saturday afternoon and evening and got settled. That evening, a large group of people went out to dinner. I did not go, but I believe they went to the waterfront. The view was spectacular!

Sunday was a slow moving day for everyone. I think there was alot of group bonding time on Saturday night and early Sunday morning that took place so the majority of people spent most of the day on Sunday just relaxing and making sure they were ready for their internships. Sunday evening we held an orientation and dinner for everyone where we discussed NSCS, internships, and more details about other DSP highlights. Later on we had a house meeting with our RA before surprising Raj with a round of Happy Birthday, a cupcake (candle included) and card.

Of course early Monday morning the house was bustling with activity and everyone getting ready for their first day. Unfortunately it was a nasty rainy and cold day out. I tried to hold off on running errands until the rain stopped, but I finally had to go. Wouldn't you know that it rained the hardest while I was out AND I no more than got back and it stopped! In one of the pictures below you can actually see how hard it was raining. I also posted a photo of David and Andre, two fine looking "Men In Black" after their first day of internship at New York Life.

The majority of the group went to "Little Italy" in the North End for dinner. As you'll see by the first picture below, it was raining again! As I crossed the street with a couple others, I then remembered that I have close to 20 people following me usually and if I move quickly to get across the street, chances are they have no chance to even make a run for it. So then you have to wait for all the traffic anyways on the other side of the road while the rest of the group waits. We had a great dinner and then stopped at Mike's Pastries, a wonderful pastry shop with anything and everything sweet you could want!

The Birthday Boys...and them catching ZzzzZs on the way to dinner. :)

Tuesday was Day 2 of the Internships. Then they had their first day of class from 7-9pm. It sounds like the everyone is liking the class and especially the Professor. After class we had a house meeting again to discuss the fun part of the summer: what activities the group wanted me to look into and plan for us as optional weekend activities. We also celebrated David's Birthday with another round of Happy Birthday, a cupcake and card.

Wednesday was Day 3...everyone is really getting into their internships and some still learning exploring what all the organization or company they are working for will have to offer them. Many of us met down at Quincy Market for the "Taste of Quincy Market". I think everyone agrees it was a little mis-advertised and not really much to go there for but we had dinner there and a few of us went across the street to the Scooper Bowl: AKA All you-can-eat ice cream festival. For a $7 donation to a cancer research group you had free reign of the area to have as much as you want. Places like Ben & Jerrys, Hood, Cold Stone, Edy's and many other ice cream companies I have never even heard of were there too. Oh, and the foot picture shows Krysta's foot (she told me to take it because it was "Blog worthy"). She stepped in someone's melting blue staining ice cream while waiting in the crowded line in front of Ben & Jerry's.

It was interesting Wednesday night because I think the initial energy is wearing off for some people...room doors were closed very early and lights were out in comparison to the previous few nights.

So here we are...today is only Day 4. Everyone is off at their internships. I've been looking into the activities they want to do the last couple of days and think everyone will be very excited about them when I talk about them before their class starts tonight.

I'll try to update at the end of the weekend. Saturday we are going on a walking tour with their Professor and after that I think some of us are going to check out the Free Sailing down on the river. They have volunteers there that teach you how to sail in a little boat with a few other people. Best of all...it's FREE so why not take advantage of it?!

Have a good weekend, and thanks for reading everyone! Please feel free to post your comments for everyone to read!

Until next time....

Stephanie
